At least 50 people have died as torrential rains brought by Typhoon Gemmi caused flooding in central China in late July, official Chinese media reported on Monday.
Another fifteen people are still missing in Xixing, Hunan province, according to public broadcaster CCTV.
"All affected districts in Zhixing City have regained access to electricity, communications and water supply networks," the network noted, however. "Flood victims have been resettled properly" and "post-disaster reconstruction is underway," he added.
The devastation late last month was caused by Typhoon Gemi, which after the Philippines and Taiwan made landfall in China and hit Hunan province hard.
Authorities hastily evacuated nearly 300.000 residents and suspended public transport networks in eastern China. Also in July, heavy rains in the northern province of Shanxi caused a road bridge to collapse, killing at least 38 people.
China experienced a summer of extreme—and highly contrasting—weather conditions: heavy rains hit its eastern and southern parts, while much of the north was suffocated by back-to-back heatwaves. China is the world's largest emitter of greenhouse gases and climate change, which makes extreme weather more frequent and intense.
