The Chinese hacker group APT 27, which is suspected of a series of cyberattacks in Western government services, is said to have turned its attention to German companies operating in the pharmaceutical and technology sectors.
This is stated in an official statement by the German Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV). In addition to stealing trade secrets and copyrighted material, hackers may try to break into the networks of customers and service providers in order to track other companies at the same time, the BfV briefing to a close circle of companies said.
According to Reuters, in its annual report, the German agency mentions from 2019 the existence of the APT 27 group, also known as the "Emissary Panda", which is believed to have targeted foreign embassies, among others.
Last year, the United States accused China of carrying out a widespread cyber espionage campaign, with the Chinese government denying the allegations.
