Scenes of panic unfolded at a Crédit Agricole bank branch in Naples when three armed men with masked faces stormed inside, held about 25 people, including customers and employees, hostage for more than two hours, and managed to escape with significant loot through an underground tunnel.
The attack took place shortly after 11am on Thursday when robbers entered Crédit Agricole branch 10 in Piazza Medaglie d'Oro, on the border of the Arenella and Vomero districts, through an underground tunnel. According to Italian media, it is one of the most serious robberies in recent years in the area.
The thieves, who according to Italian media were wearing masks with the faces of actors, managed to remove both cash and valuables from the safety deposit boxes located in the bank's underground vault. The exact amount of the loot remains unknown, as the damages have not yet been fully assessed and the contents of the boxes are known only to their owners.
The incident caused intense panic among the bank's customers, with dozens of depositors gathering outside the branch that same evening, seeking information on whether their savings or valuables were among the stolen items.
The moment the hostages leave the bank:
According to information, the perpetrators, who had a heavy Neapolitan accent, appear to have meticulously prepared the attack, knowing the layout of the premises and the operation of the store.
During the invasion, they wore dark blue work overalls, while covering their faces with socks and masks to avoid being recognized. Authorities are examining all evidence to identify them, assessing that these are people with experience in similar attacks.
