The aim should be to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed during a meeting in Berlin on Monday. However, they disagreed on how the goal would be achieved.
Netanyahu again criticized the nuclear deal with Iran, while Chancellor Merkel, on the other hand, defended it.
The Israeli Prime Minister asked the Chancellor to show a tougher stance towards Iran. He claimed that the leaders of this country see Israel as a cancer and want to eradicate it from the map.
As Netanyahu put it, "Iran is trying to acquire nuclear weapons to carry out a new genocide. "Iran wants to exterminate 6 million Jews again, and we will not allow that."
For her part, Chancellor Merkel agreed that Iran's actions in the Middle East are a matter of particular concern for Israel's security.
He added, however, that Germany would use its diplomatic channels and influence to move Iran away from areas around Israel.
He insisted on the stance of France and Britain, which continue to remain in the nuclear deal with Iran, even after the US withdrew from the agreement.
