Unthinkable barbarism by zoo visitors to China
Visitors to a zoo in southeastern China killed a kangaroo after stoning it to force it to jump!
The 12-year-old female kangaroo died in the city of Futsu a few days after being stoned to death with bricks and pieces of cement, according to CCTV. The incident took place on 28 February.
One of the unfortunate marsupial's legs broke from the stones and almost detached from his body. His death, according to local media, is due to the blows he received to the kidneys, said the veterinarian who performed the autopsy.
A few weeks after the death of the female kangaroo, a male was slightly injured under similar conditions.
The television did not specify whether suspects have been identified or arrested for stoning animals. Some zoo visitors are accustomed to throwing objects at kangaroos to see them jump.
The zoo's management intends to embalm the kangaroo and expose it to the public, while at the same time installing security cameras.
Chinese zoos are often blamed for poor living conditions and the behavior of some visitors, in a country where the concept of animal protection is not very common. Last year, a group of visitors threw a live donkey into the tiger enclosure of a zoo in eastern China.
