BRITAIN: Theresa May has resigned

The resignation of the Conservative Party and the country leadership on June 7 was announced by Teresa May in a speech outside number 10 on Downing Street, less than three years after taking office.

Theresa May has informed Queen Elizabeth of her intention to resign and the succession race is expected to begin next week.

Ms May expressed her intention to step down as prime minister after failing to implement the Brexit deal she reached with the European Union.

Former Secretary of State Boris Johnson is considered the new prime minister.
