An email account linking the main suspect in Madeleine McCann's kidnapping, Christian Brickner, to her disappearance has been discovered by German police, investigators say.
Detective Titus Stampa told a German court that emails were found on a Hotmail account used by Brickner that directly linked him to the case.
It is the first discovery by investigators that so directly links Brickner to the disappearance of the three-year-old from a resort room in Praia da Luz, Portugal, in 2007.
Brickner has been convicted of child molestation and drug trafficking and as of 2019 is serving a 7-year prison sentence for the rape of an American woman in the Algarve, Portugal, in the same area where little Madeleine was lost.
However, according to detective Stampa's information, a second email account of the convicted German was found in which he shared child abuse material with others.
The account in question was reportedly deleted of all messages in early 2007, when Madeleine disappeared from the hotel complex.
German officials named Brickner as a prime suspect in 2020, and authorities continued to investigate Madeleine's disappearance in the years that followed.
