Pope Francis hospitalized with polymicrobial respiratory infection

His condition is described as "complex"

The health condition of Pope Francis, who is being treated at the Gemelli Hospital in Rome with a respiratory infection, is considered "complex".

According to a Vatican announcement, the results of tests in recent days confirmed the existence of a polymicrobial infection, which led to a further modification of his medication.

"All tests so far show a complex clinical profile, which requires appropriate hospitalization," the Vatican statement said, suggesting that the Pontiff's stay in the hospital will be longer than initially estimated.

According to Ansa, there is currently no clear timetable for his return to Santa Marta, his residence in the Vatican. However, it is estimated that this will not happen before the middle of the week, as the attending doctors are closely monitoring the evolution of his health.
