Families of hostages held in Gaza called on Monday for the Norwegian Nobel Committee to award the Nobel Peace Prize to United States President Donald Trump this month for his efforts to secure the release of their loved ones.
“From the moment of his inauguration, [Trump] has brought us light in our darkest moments,” the Forum said, expressing gratitude for the dozens of living and dead hostages who returned through the US-brokered ceasefire between January and March.
"We strongly urge you to award President Trump the Nobel Peace Prize, because he has vowed not to rest and not to stop until the last hostage is returned to his homeland."
The letter does not constitute a nomination by Trump, as the Forum is not qualified to submit nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize. Eligible candidates include members of national governments, university professors and former Peace Prize laureates.
Earlier, when Trump announced the Israel-Hamas agreement, the Hostage and Missing Families Forum welcomed the US President's announcement with "enthusiasm, hope, and concern."
"This is significant and substantial progress towards the return of everyone, but our fight is not over and will not end until the last hostage returns," the team said in a statement.
“The families of the hostages wish to express their deep gratitude to President Trump and his team for the leadership and determination that led to this historic breakthrough. There are 48 hostages being held by Hamas. It is our moral and national obligation to bring them all back to their homeland – both the living and the dead. Their return is essential to the healing and recovery of Israeli society as a whole. We will not rest until every last hostage is returned to their homeland.”
