A car has crashed into a busy shopping centre in Melbourne, terrifying customers and forcing them to take refuge inside stores.
The white Landcruiser smashed through a door and crashed into the Northland Shopping Centre on Murray Road in Preston at around 4.10pm on Wednesday.
Authorities said the male driver, who is believed to have been the only occupant of the vehicle, was trying to evade police when he crashed into the center of the shopping center.
An eyewitness reported: "All we heard were voices from a car passing by."
"It was scary. People were shouting, 'Is there someone with a gun? What's going on?'"
Police confirmed that officers are still searching for the vehicle, which left the shopping centre heading towards Wood Street.
The incident occurred a few weeks after a brawl in the mall's outdoor dining area, which led to the building's closure, as reported by the Daily Mail.
