Most Italians want to stay in the euro

Two polls show that 60% to 72% of Italians want the country to remain in the euro, while 23% to 24% would choose to leave the common currency.

The polls were conducted by Euromedia and Piepoli for the "Porta a Porta" show of the state radio and television network RAI, which was broadcast last Wednesday night.

The euro has become part of the political debate ahead of early elections expected later this year or in early 2019.

The Piepoli poll showed that 72% want to stay, 23% want to leave and 5% are undecided.

The Euromedia poll showed that 60% want to stay, 24% want to leave and 16% are undecided.
