US President Donald Trump launched a new attack on Pope Leo on Wednesday, in response to the pontiff's opposition to the war against Iran.
In noticeably lower tones, however, Trump, through his post on Truth Social, states:
"Could someone tell Pope Leo that Iran has killed at least 42.000 innocent, completely unarmed protesters in the last two months, and that it is absolutely unacceptable for Iran to have a nuclear bomb? Thank you for your interest in this issue. AMERICA IS BACK!!! President DONALD TRUMP."
Vance disappointed by the Pope's attitude
US Vice President J.D. Vance told a conference of the conservative organization Turning Point USA (TPUSA) at the University of Georgia that he still admires Pope Leo, despite feeling "disappointed" by the pontiff's criticism of US policies.
In particular, Vance stated that the Pope was wrong to say that political figures should not wield the sword, adding that the pontiff should "be careful when speaking on matters of theology."
"Was God on the side of the Americans who liberated France from the Nazis? Was God on the side of the Americans who liberated the Holocaust camps and liberated these innocent people from those who had survived the Holocaust? I certainly believe the answer is yes," Vance said.
