Former Turkish Defense Minister stabbed to death

Former Turkish Defense Minister Ercan Vuralhan was stabbed to death while in a cafeteria in Istanbul.

He is said to be a 44-year-old who had a meeting with the former Minister. In an unexpected moment he cut his throat with a cutter.

The minister was taken to hospital with serious injuries, but was not rescued. The motives of the perpetrator remain unknown.

In 1987, Ercan Vuralhan was elected Member of Parliament for the first time with Mesut Yilmaz's Motherland's party, and from December 21, 1987 until March 30, 1989, he was the Minister of Defense of Turkey.
