Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu denied that he accepted in principle the creation of a Palestinian state and stressed that the Israeli army "will remain in most of the Gaza Strip," in a video he posted on Telegram today after the presentation of Donald Trump's peace plan.
"Under no circumstances, and this is not mentioned in the agreement," Netanyahu said in response to the question of whether he "accepted a Palestinian state," following the talks he had with the American president at the White House on Monday.
"But one thing was said clearly: we are firmly opposed to a Palestinian state," he added.
Trump's peace plan for Gaza, which was presented by the White House on Monday, states that "the conditions may finally be created for a credible path toward self-determination and the creation of a Palestinian state."
At the same time, the Israeli prime minister emphasized that "we will bring back all our hostages, alive and in good health, while the IDF (the Israeli army) will remain in most of the Gaza Strip."
“They told us: you have to accept Hamas’s terms (…) Chahal must withdraw and Hamas can be strengthened, control the Strip (…) No, no, this will not happen like that,” he added in the video.
Netanyahu's statements came a day after he publicly expressed his support for the Trump peace plan, which provides for the deployment of "an international stabilization force" in Gaza after the withdrawal of the Israeli army.
