The dog that dethroned its predecessor from the Guinness Book of Records is in Portugal. The record he broke stood for just over 83 years.

The previous oldest dog was Bluey from Australia, who died in 1939 at the age of 29 years and five months. Bobi is now a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo, a breed that lives 12 to 14 years. But on the first of February Bobi was already 30 years and 226 days old, looking pretty good for his age.

His age has been officially confirmed by the Portuguese government's pet database, managed by the National Association of Veterinarians, according to the Guinness Book of Records.

Bobi has lived these three decades and something in the village of Conqueiros on the west coast of the country, together with the Costa family. In 2018, he experienced his only health problem so far, when he had to be hospitalized, when he collapsed from breathing difficulties. But otherwise she has lived a relaxed and uneventful life until now.
