Elon Musk is considering shutting down social media platform X (formerly Twitter) in Europe in response to a new regulation that applies to online platforms, reports the Insider news site.
The platform's billionaire owner has discussed the possibility of removing the app's availability in Europe or blocking users living in the European Union, according to the report.
The European Union adopted the Digital Services Act (DSA) in August, which sets rules to prevent the spread of harmful content, prohibit or limit certain user-targeting practices, and share certain internal data with regulators and relevant researchers, among other things .
Last week, the European Commission warned Musk that it had indications that the platform was being used to spread illegal content and disinformation about Hamas' attack on Israel. According to Insider's report, the platform is likely already in violation of the DSA.
