An 87-year-old Iranian man who lives on the streets and has not bathed for almost seven decades has recently shocked scientists with his good health.

We first wrote about Amou Haji in 2014, calling him "the dirtiest man in the world." At the time, he was living in a small village in the Fars province of southern Iran, surviving murders and dirty, stagnant, polluted water and staying as far away from bathtub water as possible, thinking that contact would harm his health. !

He was then 80 years old and appeared to be in good general health, despite the disputed health and living conditions. Well, obviously not much has changed since then, as a team of doctors recently performed a series of tests that showed they were in surprisingly good health!

Photos and articles about Amou Haji have been making the rounds on social media since his story went viral seven years ago. After all, his lifestyle is quite incredible, at a time when many of us probably bathe more than we should.

If nothing else, I was a little surprised that a team of scientists took so long to find Haji! A team of doctors led by Associate Professor of Parasitology Dr Gholamreza Molavi from the Tehran School of Public Health visited Amou Haji in the village of Dejgah and persuaded him to let him have some tests. They included tests for various forms of hepatitis and AIDS as well as for parasites. Dr. Gholamreza Molavi believes that the only logical explanation for the test results is that Amou Haji has developed an extremely strong immune system over decades of living in extremely harsh conditions.
