Vladimir Putin declared a ceasefire in fighting on the Ukrainian front on the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, according to the Kremlin.

The ceasefire will be in effect from midnight on May 7th to midnight on May 10th.

"By decision of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, based on humanitarian criteria, during the days of the 80th anniversary of the Victory, the Russian side declares a ceasefire. During this period, all military actions will cease," the Kremlin said in a statement.

Russia believes that Ukraine should follow its example and also declare a ceasefire on the 80th anniversary of Victory, according to the Kremlin.

"The Russian side once again declares its readiness for peace talks without preconditions, aimed at eliminating the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis, as well as for constructive cooperation with international partners," the statement added.
