Putin hid millions of pounds in Britain - NCA investigation

Russian President Vladimir Putin is believed to have invested millions of pounds in his personal fortune in London, money that the National Crime Agency (NCA) will seek.

The investigation will be conducted by the new NCA kleptocracy unit, set up in Britain in the wake of the invasion of Ukraine, in parallel with the start of sanctions against Russian oligarchs.

According to the Daily Telegraph, the unit will work with the British secret services to identify Putin's real estate or other assets in the UK that could be revealed through his links to collaborators and oligarchs.

A Telegraph source said work on the investigation had already begun, and that the anti-kleptocracy unit would focus on the mission.

It is noted that the Anglo-American stockbroker Bill Browder, one of the harshest and "annoying" critics of Vladimir Putin, who played a key role in imposing sanctions on Russian interests and in the adoption of the so-called Magnitsky law in the US, had told The Russian president's personal fortune could be as high as $ 2017 billion.

Speaking in the House of Commons on Tuesday, Labor MP Chris Bryant called on the government to look for President Putin's personal property, saying he had been told that much of it was hidden in the UK.

He demanded not only a freeze but the confiscation of the property of Russian oligarchs and Kremlin associates.
