US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he will announce 25% tariffs on all steel and aluminium imports into the US on Monday, another major escalation in his trade policy overhaul.
Trump, speaking to reporters on Air Force One, also said he would announce reciprocal tariffs on Tuesday or Wednesday, which would take effect almost immediately.
He made the announcement while flying Air Force One over the "Gulf of America," as the pilot was heard saying.
"Air Force One is currently in international waters, the first time in history it has flown over the newly renamed Gulf of America."
Trump imposed tariffs of 25% on steel and 10% on aluminum during his first term, but later granted duty-free quotas to several trading partners, including Canada, Mexico, the EU and the United Kingdom.
Also during the flight on the presidential plane, Trump stated that he is committed to purchasing and placing the Gaza Strip under American ownership, noting that he could give parts of this Palestinian enclave to other Middle Eastern states to help in the reconstruction effort.
