US President Donald Trump warned on Tuesday that Iran would be "wiped off the map" if Tehran orchestrated his assassination, reacting to threats from an Iranian general.
"I have given very clear orders. If anything happens, they will wipe it off the face of the Earth," he said during an interview with the News Nation television network that aired yesterday.
Earlier yesterday, Iranian General Abolfazl Shekarchi threatened that the American leader would be killed if Washington attacked Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
"Trump knows that if a hand is raised against our leader, we will not just cut off that hand, and these are not empty words," the officer emphasized to state media.
The US president has repeatedly threatened to order military intervention to end the repression of the mass demonstrations that began on December 28.
Voices in the Iranian diaspora, including that of Shirin Ebadi, the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize laureate, have recently advocated against "targeted" actions by Washington against the Iranian leadership, especially Ali Khamenei.
Shortly after returning to the White House a year ago, Mr. Trump had already threatened to “destroy” Iran in the event of an Iranian attack on his life.
