US President Donald Trump announced yesterday, Wednesday, that he is designating the "Antifa" movement as a "terrorist" organization, although it is a general and vague term that refers to far-left organizations that say they are motivated by anti-fascism, a week after the murder of ultraconservative influencer Charlie Kirk.
"I am pleased to inform our many patriots in the United States that I am designating 'Antifa', a sick, dangerous scourge of the radical left, a terrorist organization," the American President said, via Truth Social, typing the designations in capital letters, as is his custom.
"I will also strongly recommend that those who fund 'Antifa' face a thorough investigation in accordance with the strictest legal practices and the strictest rules," added Donald Trump, who is in Britain for an official visit.
The White House announced earlier this week its intention to crack down on what it described as "domestic terrorism" from the left following the murder of Charlie Kirk.
Tyler Robinson, the suspect in the murder, is portrayed by much of the right as a "far-left" murderer, as he allegedly told relatives that the victim spread "hate" and carved "anti-fascist" messages on bullet casings.
He was indicted on Tuesday by authorities, who are seeking the death penalty for the 22-year-old.
A figure of the American right, 31-year-old Charlie Kirk praised President Trump's political views to his millions of followers on social networking sites and at events he organized at universities, addressing above all youth, while defending and spreading his ideas, which were nationalist, Christian, and traditionalist regarding the family.
