US President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social on Monday night a text message he had received from French President Emmanuel Macron.

French President Emmanuel Macron reportedly told the US president that he is "absolutely aligned on the issue of Syria" and that he could organize a G7 meeting in Paris on Thursday afternoon, adding, however, that he does not "understand exactly what he is doing with Greenland."

Macron's message to President Trump:

"My friend,

We are absolutely aligned on the issue of Syria.

We can achieve great things in Iran.

I don't understand what you're doing with Greenland.

Let's try to build great things:

I can organize a G7 meeting in Paris, Thursday afternoon, after Davos. I can invite the Ukrainians, the Danes, the Syrians and the Russians to the sidelines.

"Let's have dinner together in Paris on Thursday, before you return to the States."

Any responses from Trump were not included in the screenshot he posted.

A source close to the French president said that the text message shared by Trump is authentic.

At the same time, European Union leaders are expected to meet in Brussels on Thursday evening in an emergency summit, following Trump's threats to impose new tariffs on several EU countries, as part of his demand to acquire Greenland.

Trump says he had a phone call with NATO's Rutte regarding Greenland

At the same time, US President Donald Trump said today that he had a "very good" phone conversation with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte regarding Greenland.

Trump also said he had agreed to a meeting of various parties in Davos, Switzerland, during the World Economic Forum. He did not specify who those various parties were.

"As I have expressed to everyone, very clearly, Greenland is of imperative importance to National and Global Security. We cannot back down – Everyone agrees on that!" he wrote in a post on Truth Social.

Trump had previously told reporters that the United States would hold talks on acquiring Greenland this week at the World Economic Forum because Denmark cannot protect the territory.

Yesterday on Truth Social, Trump also published on Truth Social a text message he had received from Rutte.

"Mr. President, dear Donald, what you have accomplished today in Syria is incredible. I will use my media appearances in Davos to highlight your work there, in Gaza and in Ukraine. I am committed to finding a way forward for Greenland. I look forward to meeting you."
Sincerely,
Mark.

Trump threatens to impose 200% tariffs on French wines and champagnes

Meanwhile, the American president threatened on Monday to impose 200% customs duties on imported spirits – wines and champagnes – from France, due to the refusal of his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron to join his "Peace Council".

"I will increase the tariffs on their wines and champagnes to 200%. And they will join. But they are not obligated to join," he told reporters in Florida.

Sources close to French President Macron told AFP yesterday that Paris had no intention of "giving positive follow-up" at this stage to Washington's challenge for the French head of state to become a member of the Republican tycoon's "Peace Council".
