US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday he would push for new tax breaks before November, when midterm elections in which Republicans hope to retain control of Congress.
Trump said he would meet with Republican Kevin Brady, chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, to discuss the idea. He did not give any other details.
"We will be proposing (additional) tax cuts sometime before November," Trump said during a speech at the headquarters of an anti-abortion group.
Trump signed a bill in December that passed tax cuts totaling $ 1,5 trillion, which Republicans see as the most iconic achievement of his term.
Republicans are trying to capitalize on the good course of the economy in the run-up to the November election, stressing mainly the decline in unemployment to its lowest level in 17 years.
In the November elections, all seats in the House of Representatives will be decided and one third of the Senate will be renewed. If they want to snatch control of the House of Representatives (435 seats) from Republicans, Democrats must win another 23, in addition to those they already control. In the Senate, the majority of Republicans are marginal (51-49).
