Republican US presidential candidate Donald Trump blamed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for Russia's invasion of Ukraine. "He should never have let this war start," Trump said in an interview with YouTuber Patrick Pett-David.
Russia launched an unprovoked, full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Since then, Kiev, with help from the West, has been fighting the Russian invaders. The US is Ukraine's largest arms supplier, with military aid worth an estimated $50 billion – far less than Trump's claims.
Once again, the Republican former US president raised objections to US military aid to Kiev. "I consider Zelesny to be one of the best players I have ever seen. Every time he comes, we give him $100 billion – who else in history got that much money? This is unprecedented," he said. However, he noted that this does not mean that he does not want to help Ukraine, since he feels "very bad for these people". Trump's running mate, Ohio Senator Jay-Dee Vance, has come out strongly against aid to Ukraine.
During the interview, Trump repeated his long-standing claim that if he were president of the United States, this war would not have broken out. He noted that war had not broken out in his four years in the White House and "it was never going to happen." He assured that if he wins the November 5 election, he will be able to end the war before the January 20 swearing-in ceremony.
According to polls, the election contest between Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Kamala Harris is predicted to be extremely ambiguous.
