The world's warmest year on record is set to take place in 2024, according to the UN's World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
According to the agency, the global average temperature between January and September was about 1,54 degrees C above that of the late 19th century.
In Paris in 2015, nearly 200 countries pledged to tackle long-term warming, hoping to avoid some of the worst effects of climate change.
But the UN says this 1,5C target has not yet been breached because it refers to a long-term average.
