All the wrong predictions and statements of Elon Musk about the coronavirus

Of Joe walsh

Billionaire Elon Musk was sharply criticized on Friday when he claimed - without citing evidence - that there was "some controversy" over the safety of coronavirus vaccines. This message is the latest in a series of erroneous predictions by the automotive industry about its pandemic. COVID-19.

Timetable

-6 March 2020. International cases have reached 100.000 and deaths have exceeded 3.000. Musk, however, tweets that "coronavirus panic is a nonsense."

-19 March 2020. There is a daily record in the US with almost 2.000 cases, but Musk predicts that "we are leading to zero cases by the end of April."

March 19, 2020. Musk insists that "children are immune to the virus", despite research showing that children can get sick too.

-9 May 2020. Due to local restrictions imposed by the state of Alamenda, California, the operation of the Tesla plant was mandatory (and) stopped. Musk filed a lawsuit against the province, but withdrew it two weeks later.

-11 May 2020. Musk announced that the production line in the San Francisco Bay Area will reopen in violation of the bans. "If anyone has to be arrested, it's just me," he wrote in a Twitter post the same day.

September 28, 2020. Musk told the New York Times that he and his children would not get the vaccine when it became available because "we are not in danger." He also claimed that the virus has a low mortality rate (by that time 2,6 million people had died from coronavirus complications).

-12 March 2021. Musk questioned the safety of the second dose of the vaccine, saying that "there are several negative allergic reactions."

Both Musk and Tesla declined to comment.

Review

"In fact, Elon, the second dose of the vaccine is extremely safe," said Dr. Eric Topol, a professor at the Scripps Research Medical Center. While some patients have reported temporary side effects such as fatigue after a second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, more severe reactions are extremely rare. In the first month of vaccination in the United States, about 4 in one million vaccinated patients developed anaphylaxis, according to a study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

record

Musk, who according to Forbes is consistently one of the richest people in the world, and members of his family may have been infected with the coronavirus. In November, he announced on Twitter that he was experiencing cold symptoms and "probably" had a moderate case COVID-19, one day after he claimed that he had done many tests and received contradictory results. Two months later, his partner, the musician Grimes, stated that "I finally got COVID" and that "I am strangely enjoying the medicine I am taking for the common cold."

Finally, it is recalled that in March 2020, Musk had promised to donate thousands of inhalers for intubation to full hospitals. However, according to Bloomberg and CNN, hospitals eventually received oxygen masks. Hospital administrations said the masks also proved useful.
