There is also a country in Europe that has set the road safety of its citizens as its main goal and achieved an impressive result. In 2019 in Oslo, Norway, only one person was killed in a car accident throughout the year.
More specifically, according to official data, for the first time in the history of the country, no young person under 16 years of age was killed in a car accident on the streets of the capital and only one of all age groups. In 2017, only three people lost their lives on the streets, but in 2019 it lowered the bar even lower.
It should be noted, however, that road deaths throughout Norway increased (slightly) from 108 in 2018 to 110 in 2019.
The above positive results are a consequence of the "Vision Zero" initiative, which was adopted by the government, in the framework of the national strategy for the country's MMM, in the period 2018-2019. The goal of "Vision Zero" is to create a road network in which "no one will be killed or seriously injured". This includes lowering speed limits nationally and increasing heavy and safer cars on the country's roads.
The impressive data with a flashback was shared on twitter by Anders Hartmann, who is active in road safety awareness issues in Norway.
