The preventive measures taken by many countries on the occasion of the outbreak of cases Covid-19 in China are "understandable" given the lack of reliable information from Beijing on the course of the pandemic, said World Health Organization (WHO) chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

"In the absence of detailed information from China, it is understandable that countries around the world are taking measures they believe will protect their citizens," the director-general of the World Health Organization wrote in a post on Twitter.

Last week, Dr. Tedros expressed his strong concern about the spread of the coronavirus in China, stressing that the World Health Organization needs detailed information on hospital admissions and ICU availability in order to have a comprehensive assessment of the situation.
