Pakistan: 20 dead in fire after bus collides with tanker

At least 20 people were charred to death today when a bus caught fire after it collided with a tanker carrying petrol in central Pakistan, police said.

The long-distance bus rammed into the back of the tanker in the dark on the outskirts of Multan city.

"Twenty people were killed in the accident caused by the fire" that broke out afterwards, Rao Zulfikar Ali, a senior police official, told AFP. Six people were injured, he added.

The bus has been completely destroyed by fire.

Public transport accidents occur frequently in Pakistan due to poor road conditions, poorly maintained vehicles and careless driving.

In 2015, 62 people were killed in a road accident again involving a bus and a tanker in the southern province of Sindh.
