At least 549 people died in Pakistan last month due to floods caused by unusually heavy monsoons, with isolated communities in the impoverished southwestern province of Baluchistan among those hardest hit, a government agency said.
Government agencies and the military have set up relief camps in flood-affected areas and are making efforts to relocate families and provide food and medicine.
In addition to the casualties, the floods have caused damage to over 46.200 houses, as announced today by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
Last month was the most rainy in three decades, with 133% more rain than the average of the last 30 years, according to the NDMA. Balochistan, which borders Iran and Afghanistan, saw 305 percent more rain than the annual average, according to the disaster management agency.
