Hours after Hamas' deadly terror attack on Israel, US President Joe Biden pledged "unwavering" support for its closest ally in the Middle East.

Washington, which provides about $3 billion in annual military aid to Israel, ordered warships and aircraft to move closer to Israel in a show of support after Saturday's attack by the Palestinian Islamist group.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken called the Hamas attack a "massive terrorist attack" in an interview with ABC News on Sunday.

Here is a record of US military support to Israel as reported in a related Al Jazeera report:

Ships of the Navy

The USS Gerald R Ford Carrier Strike Group will move to the Eastern Mediterranean along with its accompanying warships.

The USS Ford is the US Navy's most advanced aircraft carrier, and one of the largest in the world.

The US is additionally sending the USS Normandy, a guided-missile cruiser armed with naval guns, and the destroyers USS Thomas Hudner, USS Ramage, USS Carney and USS Roosevelt.

Munitions

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said on Sunday that the US would provide ammunition to Israel.

The interceptors are for Israel's Iron Dome defense system. These are the devices that hit Hamas rockets and in some cases cause them to explode harmlessly in the air instead of landing.

Al Jazeera's correspondent said US ammunition worth $2 billion has been procured at six different locations in Israel that can be used in an emergency.

How has Hamas responded to US aid to Israel?

Hamas has described the US announcement as "aggression" against the Palestinians.

"The US announcement that it will provide an aircraft carrier to support the [Israeli] occupation is a real participation in the attack against our people," the group said in a statement on Sunday.
