The death toll from a train crash in northwestern Turkey on Sunday has risen to 24, said Deputy Prime Minister Recep Akda.

The previous official report of the authorities mentioned 10 dead and 73 wounded.

Search and rescue operations were completed Monday morning at the scene, Akda said, according to the Turkish state-run Anatoli news agency.

The train, with about 360 passengers, had started from Kapikule, on the border with Bulgaria, and was heading to Istanbul when six of the train's carriages derailed near the village of Sarilar.

According to an announcement by the Prime Minister's Office, the derailment of the suburban train occurred after a landslide. "Unfortunately we have victims," the statement said.
