Guinness World Record for the ring that "fitted" 12.638 diamonds

A flower-shaped ring decorated with more than 12.000 diamonds has made it into the Guinness Book of World Records, but its creator, a 25-year-old Indian jeweler, is so proud of what he has yet to sell.

The jewel, called "The Marigold - the ring of prosperity", weighs 12.638 diamonds and weighs just over 165 grams. "Comfortable, it's fine," jeweler Harshit Bansal, from the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, told AFP.

The design was a dream come true for him, who took shape two years ago while still a jewelry student in Surat, a city in western India known for its diamonds.

"I've always aimed for more than 10.000 diamonds," Bansal said. "Over the years, I've destroyed a lot of designs and ideas in order to focus solely on this piece of jewelry."

Marigold broke the previous record of a ring with 7.801 diamonds.
