Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was moved to an underground bunker in the Lavizan area, northeast of Tehran, a few hours after Israel launched its attacks targeting all of Iranian territory.
This was stated by two well-informed sources inside Iran to Iran International.
With him are all members of Khamenei's family, including his son, Mojtaba.
According to the same sources, during the previous operations against Israel, True Promise 1 and True Promise 2, the Supreme Leader's family was also moved to the shelter.
Iran's first direct attack on Israel, Operation True Promise 1, took place on April 13, 2024, and involved over 300 missiles and drones targeting military installations. The attack was in retaliation for the assassination of two Iranian generals in Damascus.
Operation True Promise 2 followed on October 1, 2024, with approximately 200 missiles targeting Israeli military installations in response to the assassination.
Trump saved him.
The revelation of the Iranian leader's whereabouts comes in the wake of revelations that United States President Donald Trump rejected an Israeli plan to assassinate Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in recent days, two US officials told Reuters on Sunday.
"Have the Iranians killed an American so far? No. Until they do, we're not even talking about targeting their political leadership," a senior US government official said.
Warning to Khamenei
It is recalled that on Sunday (15/6) Israel targeted the city of Mashhad for the first time, which is located 2.300 kilometers from the Jewish State.
A diplomatic source in the Middle East told Iran International that the Israeli airstrike on Mashhad was a warning to Iran's Supreme Leader that he is not safe anywhere in the country.
The diplomatic source added that Israel could have eliminated Khamenei on the first night of the operation, but the Israeli government chose to keep him alive to give him one last chance to decide on the complete dismantling of the Islamic Republic's uranium enrichment program.
