A 3,5 Richter magnitude earthquake with a focal depth of 11,48 km that occurred in Ankara at 13.20:12.20 p.m. Turkish time (XNUMX:XNUMX p.m. Cyprus time) caused panic in Turkey, Turkish media reported.
According to information provided by the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD), the epicenter of the earthquake was the Yenimahalle district of Ankara. The earthquake was also felt in the cities of Tunceli, Elazig, Muş, Bingöl, Erzincan and Malatya.
Speaking on CNN TURK's live broadcast, seismologist Sukru Ersoy said that "the 3,5 Richter earthquake is not a big earthquake, it is not destructive, it is only felt. When there is loose ground under the structure, the earthquake is felt for a longer period of time, and the Ankara region is such a place. There are no active faults in Ankara and its surroundings."
