Children 5 to 11 years of age who are particularly susceptible to upper respiratory infections should be vaccinated against covid-19, announced today the Swedish Public Health Service.

Until now, Swedish authorities have recommended that children aged 12 and over be vaccinated, and the EU has recommended that children aged 5 to 11 be immunized due to concerns about the spread of the coronavirus Omicron strain.

"Based on the current situation, the data and the discussions with the Swedish Pediatric Association and the Medical Products Service, the Public Health Service recommends vaccination against covid-19 "for some groups of children who in general are particularly susceptible to upper respiratory infections," the service said in a statement.

The number of new cases in recent weeks covid-19 is on the rise in Sweden and the government is expected to announce the tightening of some measures later today.
