The situation in Italy is described as dangerous by the German magazine Spiegel, regarding the political instability that prevails after the elections and the prevalence of the populists. Italy is also facing an economic crisis and is called upon to take painful measures.
The magazine points out that the rhetorical crowns of the Italian populists are reminiscent of the threats of Yanis Varoufakis.
"In fact, the attack from Rome is bolder and more dangerous (ie than that of Greece). It is more dangerous, because Italy, unlike the much smaller Greece, could be supported for a maximum of one or two years by the European Rescue Mechanism. Then the euro would inevitably flow into a crisis, which would threaten its very existence, dragging banks and financial institutions around the world into the abyss. "If Greece was the explosive device, Italy is the nuclear bomb."
"Moreover," the German magazine continues, "Rome's campaign is marked by extreme audacity. Greece was a poor country on the brink of bankruptcy, which begged for help in an emergency.
Italians, on the other hand, have on average more assets than the Germans and are much richer than the citizens of Latvia or Slovakia, who are called upon to bear the burden of a tax reform that would mainly benefit the wealthiest Italians. "If the new government (of Rome) finally gets what it wants, it will introduce an extremely insidious form of transfer of resources to Europe, from the poorest to the richest."
