Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy has been convicted of corruption and sentenced to three years in prison.
Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy has been found guilty of corruption.
The court sentenced Nicolas Sarkozy to three years in prison, two of which were suspended.
The former president told the court that he "never committed the slightest act of corruption", but prosecutors suggested he be sentenced to prison.
"These events would not have happened if the former president, like his lawyer, had realized the responsibility and duties that came with his office," said prosecutor Jean-Luc Blason.
Former lawyer Thierry Herzog was also sentenced to three years in prison for the same case.
The same sentence was imposed on Sarkozy as on former judge Gilbert Azibert.
