A Russian sniper was arrested with 40 murders on her assets

The Ukrainian authorities arrested a Russian woman sniper with 40 murders of Ukrainians, including civilians in its assets, after being abandoned injured on the battlefield by her Russian comrades.

According to British media, citing Ukrainian sources, the woman, named Irina Starikova, carries the code name Bagira, originally from Serbia and has been a target of Ukrainians since 2014.

The country's armed forces have announced that it has arrested and released photos of her.

According to another media outlet, the army said it had received it medical care when he was arrested.

She allegedly said that her comrades left her injured "Or hoping I would die" even though they had the opportunity to take her with them.

Starikova has served with separatist forces in his area Donetsk of eastern Ukraine, which have been fighting the Kiev government with the help of Russia since 2014.

Soviet Russia had a special past in female snipers during World War II, at a time when other countries preferred to restrict women to factories or agriculture.

Another Soviet sniper, the Gelizaveta Mironov, was only 17 years old when Germany invaded the Soviet Union in 1941.

Born in Moscow, she had just finished high school when she volunteered for him Red Army. Mironov fought on sieges of Odessa and Sevastopol and had at least 34 deadly blows in her name, although some sources claim she had over 100.

Her comrades were particularly impressed with her achievements during five days of fierce fighting in Goracic Kluc in October 1942, when the teenager is said to have killed more than 20 Germans. Nevertheless was injured seriously in the battle for Novorossiysk and died at the age of just 19 years.

About 800.000 women served in the Soviet Union during the war, including in roles such as pilots and machine gunners.

The activities of Soviet women fighters were also recorded by Nobel laureate Svetlana Alexievitch in her 1985 book The Unwomanly Face of War.
