The attack began last night against a large prison in the Hasakeh area, where thousands of jihadists are being held. Fighting, which continues, took place inside and around the detention center, according to the Observatory, which said a large number of detainees had managed to escape.

The number of members of the security forces and guards who were killed amounts to 18, according to the Observatory, which clarifies that this is the largest attack launched by the Islamic State since its defeat in Syria in 2019, persecuted and by its last stronghold in the eastern part of the country.

The Kurdish Democratic Forces, which is dominated by Kurdish fighters, announced the arrest of 89 detained jihadists who tried to escape.
