The delegations of the Russian Federation and the United States of America concluded negotiations in Riyadh.
The negotiation process lasted more than four hours.
The two sides discussed the fact that two large countries cannot help but communicate with each other, said the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, Kirill Dmitriev.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alex Grushko made a statement in which he stated that Russia is against European peacekeeping forces in Ukraine, describing the situation as "escalating."
Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov also said after the talks that it was difficult to set a specific date for the meeting between the two countries' leaders, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump. He added that the delegations had "a very serious discussion on all issues."
It is difficult to say yet that the positions of Moscow and Washington are getting closer, but this was discussed during the negotiations, Ushakov added.
The negotiations began around 09:30. After about 2,5 hours, they took a 15-minute break and an hour later went for lunch.
It is recalled that the Russian-American negotiations were held in one of the palaces of the Saudi royal family – Diriyah in the Albasatin complex.
On the US side, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, National Security Advisor Mike Walz, and Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff attended the meeting in Riyadh today.
Moscow was represented by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Presidential Advisor Yuri Ushakov.
These are the first talks at this level and in this format since the start of the war on February 24, 2022.
