Israel blocks release of Palestinian prisoners over chaotic conditions in Khan Younis
Israel blocked the release of Palestinian prisoners that was due to take place today, following the return of Israeli hostages.
In this way, the Israeli government is protesting the scenes of chaos in which Arbel Yehud, Gandhi Moses and five Thai nationals were taken to the Red Cross in Gaza, so that they could return to their homes from there, Channel 12 reported.
The same report states that the prisoners were on the buses ready to be released when their return to prison was ordered.
According to a spokesman for Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister “ordered the delay of the release of Palestinian prisoners that was scheduled to take place today until the safe departure of our hostages from Gaza in the coming days is ensured.” This decision was made in consultation with Defense Minister Israel Katz.
Netanyahu spoke about "unacceptable images"
In response to the scenes recorded in videos circulating on social media, Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the chaotic release in Khan Yunis of the seven hostages, who were pushed by an angry mob as they were surrendering to the Red Cross, is unacceptable.
"I view with great seriousness the shocking scenes during the release of our hostages," the Israeli prime minister said in a statement. "This is yet another demonstration of the unimaginable cruelty of the terrorist organization Hamas."
Netanyahu stressed that he "demands from the negotiators to ensure that such horrific scenes are not repeated and to guarantee the safety of our hostages. Whoever dares to harm our hostages – will pay."
