Facilities linked to Iran's natural gas industry were targeted in an Israeli raid on Wednesday, specifically near the South Pars gas field, a source told the Jerusalem Post newspaper on Wednesday.
The South Pars gas field is the largest natural gas reserve in the world, operated jointly by Iran and Qatar.
An Israeli official told the Post that the attack was coordinated with the United States. The target was Iran's largest natural gas facility at Bushehr.
Trump and his administration have opposed previous attacks on oil facilities because of the potential for catastrophic fires and subsequent price increases. However, in the case of natural gas, that does not seem to be such a concern, the Israeli official insisted.
Iran has issued an urgent warning calling for the evacuation of petrochemical facilities in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
