Price increase by 13% - 18%
Netflix's monthly subscription costs will increase by up to $ 2 as the company plans to invest in new programs, according to CEO Reed Hastings.
In particular, Netflix announced that it is increasing its prices for US subscriptions by 13% - 18%, and it is the largest increase that the service has ever made.
Thus, the price in the most popular package is set at $ 12 per month from the current 11. The most expensive subscription package, which allows simultaneous streaming on four screens, will increase to $ 16 from $ 14 per month, while the charge for the basic package that does not support HD viewing will increase to $ 9 from $ 8.
This is the fourth increase that Netflix imposes on its subscribers in the US - the last one was recorded at the end of 2017 - but it is the first that concerns all of the 58 million subscribers in America.
In previous increases imposed by the company, the basic $ 8 subscription package remained unaffected.
Finally, subscribers in about 40 Latin American countries where the service bills are paid in dollars are also expected to be affected.
For all the other approximately 79 million subscribers no increase in the cost of using the service has been reported at the moment.
