Sea-Watch 3 rescued nearly 100 other people in the Mediterranean

Sea-Watch volunteers rescued nearly a hundred migrants in the Mediterranean on Sunday afternoon, completing their fifth mission in three days, with the number of people aboard its Sea-Watch 3 reaching almost 450, he said. the non-governmental organization, based in Berlin.

Among the people rescued is a ready-made one, according to the NGO. The youngest child on board is two weeks old.

For its part, the Italian Coast Guard also announced yesterday that after a two-day search operation, it located a boat with migrants not far from the coast of Crotone, in southern Italy, and rescued 27 people.

Ferries boarding migrants from Libya and Tunisia - often anything but navigable - often head to Lampedusa due to the proximity of the small Italian island off the coast of North Africa.

Immigrants and refugees trying to venture out across the Mediterranean hope to find a better life in Europe. But often the journey has a tragic end.

According to UN data, this year alone more than 1.500 people have died in shipwrecks on the so-called main sea route of the Mediterranean, while since 2014 the death toll is estimated at at least 23.150.
