Donald Trump announced yesterday Monday his choice for the position of Secretary of Transportation. Sean Duffy, 53, former reality TV star, former prosecutor, lawyer and congressman, father of nine, advocate of fiscal "responsibility", will be called upon to manage a huge federal portfolio, spanning from spending on infrastructure as the regulatory framework for transport.
"During his time in Congress, Sean has been a respected voice in Republican ranks, promoting fiscal responsibility and economic growth," the Republican president-elect said in a statement.
Mr. Trump assured that his future secretary "will restore safety in our skies by ending racial equality programs in the ranks of pilots and air traffic controllers."
"He will prioritize excellence, capability, competitiveness and beauty while rebuilding America's highways, tunnels, bridges and airports," added the Republican leader, who is expected to take office on January 20.
In the statement he stressed that Mr Duffy, being the father of "nine incredible children", knows "how important it is for families to travel safely".
Sean Duffy, like Pete Hegseth, whom Mr. Trump has named as his next Defense Secretary, made a name for himself on television.
He was a reality TV star before he was elected to the House of Representatives in 2010 representing Wisconsin, while also hosting a show on Fox Business, part of the network television system favored by the American right.
Donald Trump has already made a number of high-profile choices since he was elected in terms of staffing his administration and his offices at the presidency, with which he means to implement his program of raising tariffs on imported goods, reducing public spending, mass deportations of immigrants, etc.
The Republican-controlled Senate is expected to approve his picks. However, it is not excluded that the President-elect will be faced with the rejection of some of his most controversial choices by his own faction.
