At least 4 dead from an avalanche in the French Alps

At least four people were killed when they were swept away by an avalanche in the Alps-Maritime (southeastern France) today, the gendarmerie said.

At least one person was injured in the accident, while another is missing, according to the same source.

According to Alpine-Maritime Governor Georges François Leclerc, who spoke of "several dead", the avalanche engulfed skiers and hikers in the Mercantur National Park.

The incident took place in Entron (southeast), about 20 kilometers from the border with Italy, in a zone where skiing is not allowed.
