Three scenarios are on the agenda, according to Turkish media, for the status that will follow for the PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan, who is imprisoned in Imrali prison, after the organization's self-dissolution and disarmament.
According to the first scenario, while the pro-Kurdish DEM party constantly demands "physical freedom" for Ocalan, the founder of the PKK himself, due to concerns for his safety, does not want to leave Imrali.
The second scenario states that Öcalan can be provided with a more comfortable environment for contacts and dialogue with him. With an administrative decision, he can be provided with a working environment and with legal arrangements it will be possible for him to have meetings with DEM members. The right to have telephone contacts is also among the arrangements expected to be made.
Based on the third scenario, there is a discussion behind the scenes about restructuring the pro-Kurdish DEM party with an extraordinary congress, depending on the decisions of the PKK congress. In this context, the question arises whether Öcalan will establish a party, take over the leadership of the party or even pave the way for him to the parliament. However, as reported by Turkish media, the current constitution and the provisions of the law on political parties do not allow this.
