Speaking to the budget committee of the Turkish Parliament, the Turkish Minister of Defense Yasar Güler noted that Turkey continues to "protect its interests in our Blue and Sky Homeland", while adding that "in recent times the tension in the Aegean has decreased significantly with mutual efforts paid by the two countries under the leadership of our President and the Prime Minister of Greece".
However, his reaction was strong for Cyprus, which he said was carrying out "activities detrimental to stability":
“Besides our fight against terrorism and border security, we also protect our rights and interests in our Blue and Sky Country, at a high level. We are effectively continuing our activities in the Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean. Recently, the tension in the Aegean has decreased significantly with the mutual efforts made by the two countries under the leadership of our President and the Prime Minister of Greece. Another specific development of this period is the resumption of Confidence Building Measures Meetings. After the meeting held in Ankara last November, we held two more meetings this year, in Athens on April 22nd and Istanbul on November 6th.
» We are closely monitoring the destabilizing activities carried out by the Greek Cypriot administration of Southern Cyprus (now the Republic of Cyprus) under the guise of humanitarian aid, which is trying to take advantage of the ongoing crisis environment in the Middle East and the increasing mobility of foreign countries on the island".
